If you really want to be a LVN then a CNA route might be good for you. I work as a MA/CNA in California at a jail and make $20 plus shift differential. My mom is a CNA at a hospital and makes $24 plus shift differential after being there a few years. I believe they started off at $20 as well. I work 2 days a week so that I am able to start my full time 16 month LVN program in March. Good luck with your future. Also being a nursing assistant will help you decide if you want to pursue health care before spending a lot of time in school to be a LVN.

You get a lot of experience from that. You should do it.

I'm in the Chicagoland area and CNAs make 8-10/hour in nursing homes. I made 12/hr in a hospital. It depends on if you're willing to take the pay cut. I can't imagine having gone to nursing school without having been a CNA. It helps you learn some of the realities of nursing, and you learn what "real" patients are like. (Some nice and grateful, some beligerent, some downright violent...) In nursing school, during clinicals, I would giggle in my head when I heard students who never worked healthcare be shocked at the behaviors they saw. Being a CNA gave me a huge advantage to being comfortable caring for patients as a nursing student and as a nurse. I myself took a pay cut to become a CNA, and never regretted it.
Thankyou everyone!!!! This really helped... now to break my pockets to start the cna program by Feb im excited
