cna student question

hello, i begin CNA school tomorrow. i am wondering if anyone has any tips, or suggestions?

a little background about me:

i have worked as an in home caregiver for about 5 years. most of my clients have had alzheimers, a few have a parkinsons, ms, and most recently, just ended my time with a hospice client. :crying2:

i am hoping to apply at the veterans home of california after finishing my CNA, since they have about 6-8 skilled nursing wards. any suggestions for that?

thanks everyone.

Just realize that most of your knowledge will come from on-the-job experiences. I wouldnt expect much from a CNA school, even though I went to one. The book is almost useless compared to the actual "hands-on" activites. Good Luck!

thanks! yes first class was this evening. i am attending a private cna school, have some fellow classmates traveling an hour to come! the rop programs are all full.

Hello, I agree with Brandon. I went to CNA school after working with similar patients for two years and I really knew a lot of what they taught cause of my experiences from my previous job. It will be a breeze for you. =D

hahahaha :) yes i am hoping it will be familiar to me. we have a quiz every day starting tomorrow. everything in the book we recieved today was not "new" info for me (alot i learned by doing in home hospice care & things i picked up from the hospice RN's) but there is a lot of vocab definitions :) thanks for the encouragement!!

Oh yes the vocab was the part that I made flash cards for and studied. That was probably the most time consuming but still it was a breeze. Good luck!!! =D

I have a suggestion. After you finish your school you can go to http://www.myexam.info and get a practice exam of about 500 questions that are all from real CNA state exams from all over the country for less than $20. its a self correcting online test you can take over and over.

have fun
