Hi there! I really don't know if any of you can answer this question, but I figured I should try. I'm currently living in Southern California, and I may be moving to Philadelphia in January. If so I will be leaving behind one career, and hoping to start another. So I'm wondering, I will only be in Philadelphia for about 6 months to a year, just going to live with my bf while he's working out there. Can I go to CNA training and take the test if I'm not a Pennsylvania resident? I would like to do the program in So Cal but I don't think it will work with my schedule, and I'm afraid to go through the program and then be in Philadelphia when my test date comes up.
Sorry for the random jumbled questions. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

You can take the program up here at a community college as an out of state resident, just be prepared for the hike in price of the program. You could always just switch over your mailing address to your new residence (it took mine 4 days to transfer from IL to NJ) and then go get a county ID (it takes an hour if that) and use your county ID as your ID for school. Then you would most likely get in state tuition at a community college.
Sorry for such a late response! Thank you so much for your advise! I will definitely use it!

Contact the PA board of nursing. If you take the course in PA you will need to test there to get initial CNA certification, and I can say that without even looking at the state regs. And then research reciprocity by CA. You can do all this online. Most states honor the licenses granted by other states, but it's unlikely you can take your training in one state and test in another unless the state you are testing in allows challenges. i don't know PA's position on challenges. You will have to research this too.

Thanks for the info! Ya, I didn't think I could do my training and test in separate states. However I'm not sure where I'm going to end up forever, didn't know if I had to figure that out before I did my training and state exam. Thanks again!
