CNA Hours

Are there any hospitals that don't make you work 12 hour shifts? I will be getting my CNA license this summer but I am still under 18 so I am legally not allowed to work 12 hour shifts.

Also, I currently volunteer at a hospital (I have been doing escort and messenger recently but I start In a nursing unit tomorrow.:)) Do you think there is a chance that the hospital would hire (or at least I would have a better chance of being hired) me because I had volunteered there? Has anyone ever had that happened where they got a job after volunteering at a hospital?

All of the hospitals in my area do have 12 hour shifts. Other nursing facilities often have 8 hour shifts, though.

You might have better luck getting hired if you volunteer, but it's not a guarantee. Some hospitals will only hire aides with more than a year of experience. Some people here have been hired right away. It just depends on the hospitals in your area and their policies. They'd be able to answer your questions better than we can. :)

The hospital I work at only does 8 hour shifts for their CNA's. However, I know of some that do 12 hour shifts. If you look at area job postings they'll usually say. Also some hospitals will make exceptions if you're underage. I know at my hospital the normal PM shift is 3-11 but anyone under 18 in our state can only work until 9 so they just schedule those people 3-9.
