CNA challenge question

I have previously taken the CNA class here in Randolph County & subsequently moved out of state. I actually lost skills taking the CNA class (at the time I was MOA certified in another state), which for some odd reason is required for RN classes here.

My question is that if I challenge the class & just take the test will that cover the requirements for resuming my RN classes? I was about half-way through the Associates Degree in another state, my family moved back down here only to find out that, once again I need my CNA liscense. We had basically a crash course refresher at the college I was going to so I didn't actually have to take the state test again.

I have tried talking to the people at the CC's and they are clueless about Con't Ed classes. I keep getting a phone number to the place that actually gives the test & they cannot answer my questions either!

It depends on where you're planning to go for nursing classes. Some schools don't require you to have the CNA at all in order to apply. If your school does require you to have the CNA, make sure you find out if they require you to have a minimum number of clinical hours along with the CNA. If that's the case, you may not be able to challenge the exam. Even if you would pass it, you would not have the clinical hours and they may not accept your CNA for purposes of the application into their nursing program. One of the schools I was planning on applying to requires the clinical hours, that's the only reason I know. Where are you planning on going?

all the adn programs i know require cna cert, however, some also require full class and clinical hours per a state approved program, being self taught or taking a class from a mom & pop aren't enough.

most bsn programs don't require cna cert though.

i believe the ncbon.com site has a list of places/contacts that offer state approved cna classes.

Like the previous poster stated not all programs require CNA certification. The easiest route for you would be to attempt to get into a program that does not require CNA certification since you are having such a tough time getting answers to your questions. None of the 4-year schools I know of require CNA certification. A lot of the ADN programs do, but there are some who don't require CNA certification. Another thing, can you come in as a transfer? That may be a loophole that doesn't require CNA certification.

I am a CNA in wake county, and I believe that you have to take the course (according to what I've ever heard and been told). But to be sure, contact the NCBON (http://www.ncbon.org). They would know, they write the law.
