CLEP success

I just got my score for my last CLEP and I passed! Yippee!! I highly recommend taking these tests to help lighten the load and get on the nursing track faster. So I've passed (in the A range, too) Psych, Human Growth and Development, and English Comp with essay. Good luck everyone!

Hi Ladybugsea,

Congrats on passing!! I haven't run into anyone else that has taken any CLEP exams before.

I also have taken Psych and Human Growth and Development by CLEP. I am getting ready to tackle the Eng Comp with Essay and sociology. I was wondering what you found to be most helpful to study for the Eng comp exam, I have the REA Freshman College Composition book but I am wondering if I should be using something else in addition.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi! I think the CLEPs are such a smart move for people who can study well on their own. If you passed the other two, I wouldn't worry a whole lot about English Comp. :) I didn't study for that one at all; I only used the REA book with practice tests in it and that was all (I'm not sure it's the same one you mention, I wanted the actual study guide but the bookstore didn't have it and I couldn't wait at the time to get it). I got a 65. I was disappointed because I wanted higher. ;) I think the essay may have lowered my score; I kind of choked on it. I should have studied that part in my book, because I think my essay question was the same one!!!! Basically I would suggest taking the practice exams until you are comfortable with your score. That's what I did for my other two CLEPs; I took the tests over and over again until I was scoring in the 60s. Then when I actually took the real tests, I scored even higher. I think the REA books were a good preparation. I'm not too worried about you passing, since you passed the other two. :) Good luck! When are you testing?

If it were up to me I would take nearly all my gen eds by CLEP, I felt I got a lot out of the 2 Psych courses I took that way. I got a used textbooks and read through them and took notes on the highlights and went over the REA books. I felt confident while taking the tests.

I am planning on taking the ENG and SOC exam abound the middle of Jan, so i have them out of the way before the next semester starts, otherwise I'll have to take them, and I am trying to shorten my list of courses left to take.

Anyway I appreciate the input, I was wondering how much to sweat the ENG CLEP, for some reason I was worried about the essay, not sure exactly why. I guess I better just stop thinking about it and get on with it.

Thanks for the help,
