Clep study guides

Has any one used the clep study guides to pass thier tests instead of the TCN modules. I did a google search to get some info on clep/dantes test sites and it looks like both offer thier own study guides. They sell for $15 and a little higher. My thinking is if they are the ones writing and giving the test is it necessary to use TCN at all If I'm doing pre rec's for ISU. I know some classes are clep dantes and some are excelsior I wonder if I could get an excelsior study guide and then I won't have to buy TCN through them or on ebay for my generals. I will just have to buy them for the mandatory courses.
