classroom activities

I am in the process of creating a reference for classroom activities for skills lab and the lectures in our nursing program...we use a Jeopardy type review before tests, crossword puzzles for terminology etc. Looking for any successful ones you all use....willing to share??

I love the use of games in the classroom, especially for review prior to exams. I also use jeopardy for med-surg courses. I have used Druggo, similar to bingo, for pharmacology. I have used Fundi Feud, smiliar to family feud, for fundamentals courses, and So you want to be a nurse, similar to so you want to be a millionaire. Some games work very well, some I have tried and never repeated. I am definitely interested in what everyone else is using or not using.

I don't know if this helps. But for lectures with a lot of examples, I pair them up and make them act it out. I put the desks in a circle and make a "stage." On lucky days, I will bring in popcorn. It works well with most students. I mainly teach psych, so we use a lot of communication techniques and demonstrations.

I use Quia. It is a paid site (minimal charge) but with the subscription there are numerous activities you can make for reviewing such as jeopardy, who wants to be a millionair, matching, flashcards, and tons more. You can put in your own content or use those already made. In addition you create your own web page and I use this to communicate with students - it works so well for me; I've used it for years. Just go to Quia.com to subscribe.

What is Fundi Feud? I am a new nursing instructor and would like to know more about your teaching activities.

Thank you

Cindy
