Choosing between 3 positions...

I just came back from an interview on a position that I really would like to have. However, it is a PRN position... steady work for about 8 weeks while another person is on LOA for medical reasons. They are still interviewing and will make their decision by Friday of this week.

Another position that I would like is a part-time (possibly full-time) but I have not been called yet to schedule an interview.

The third position is where I worked before I accepted a travel nurse position. I could possibly start right away. It is full-time but pays $8.00 less than what the other two would pay. Plus it is one hour commute from where I live. The first two are in the city where I live now.

Should I take what I know I already (potentially) have? I am not currently working and need to start right away.

I would appreciate any input to help me make this decision.

Hmmmmmmm....tuffy...I wouldn't want an hour commute for $8 less though that's for sure...how about call about the second to see where the paper work is...If you don't "have" to work right now you could wait...or just take the PRN job and tell the second one if you get it that you could start in 8wks...

Keep in mind that the Part-time & PRN positions may not include benefits, which is probably why those positions pay more. If you would really like the PRN position & it is offered, you would still have 8 weeks to find permanent employment. If you are not offered the PRN position, I think I would have to go ahead & take the FT position...especially if you don't really have the luxury of waiting around to find that perfect position...and of course, you can certainly keep looking regardless of where you initially start. If possible, stick out any FT position for at least a year, unless you are just absolutely miserable...it looks better on your resume for future employers to know that you at least tried to make it work.

Thanks for the replies so far...I called on the third position and left a message (again!) for the manager and told her I could start right away (I need to work now and I need the benefits). She has yet to call me back.

The prn position was posted as part-time, and that is why I put in for it. It is in telephone triage and I would really like to get my foot in the door on that one.

I guess whatever comes about will be for a reason. Guess I need to be patient. BUT, I do need to start right away as I am not working now. My travel assignment ended Sunday night. Two of the positions weren't posted until 2 weeks ago when I immediately put in for them. It took 2 weeks for one of them to contact me. The third position I talked to the manager about, but she was then out for 6 weeks for surgery and just got back to work on Monday.

So, I guess I have to wait. I'm going to consider this my one week vacation. Time to get caught up on writing my book, clean the house, etc.
