Choosing a FNP program

Hello. I've been accepted to the Chamberlain FNP program, but I'm trying to decide if it would be better if I went to a nonprofit school such as Maryville instead.

Chamberlain takes anyone with a pulse and a promissory note....just saying.

I had a great experience there for my RN-to-BSN. The FNP was negative change after negative change. If you haven't started, go elsewhere. I feel I wasted significant time and money at this school and I would not recommend the FNP program to anyone. These changes began July 2017 and continue now. Anyone who graduated prior to that is comparing apples to oranges because they've made it so different. I'm in the process of transferring to a different program. Definitely go to a school with a better reputation. They spend 80% of their budget recruiting new students and only 20% on actual education. There are 2 class-action lawsuits against the school (CA & FL) which are being settled out-of-court to avoid the negative publicity.

Hello. Thanks for the information. I am supposed to start their FNP program on April 30. The main reason that I applied there is I have several coworkers who are starting at that time as well. They are all in the bridge program. I actually earned my BSN in 1993. I'm actually leaning towards applying to other schools, including Maryville, and hopefully starting in September. I have seen some good reviews regarding Chamberlain's FNP program, as well as many bad reviews. The bad reviews have been giving me some anxiety. I am also concerned that employers may look down on an applicant who attended a for profit school.

I have already signed a master promissory note and only listed Chamberlain. If I decide not to attend their program what do I need to do in order to make sure that my financial aid, loan, does not get disbursed to them?

Did you begin their FNP program and the decide to go somewhere else?

If you don't take classes, they shouldn't disperse any loan funds. If they do, you can have them return the full amount to the loan servicer. You can edit your current FAFSA to include other schools. When you log in, there's an "Add School" option.

Yes, I completed 6 courses of the FNP program with Chamberlain. I will more than likely lose half the credits I earned when I transfer elsewhere. I looked at Maryville, but they will only accept 6 credits (2 courses). I prefer to get the dual ACNP/FNP, so I'm waiting to find out if I've been accepted to University of South Alabama's program in the Fall. They will only accept 9 credits (3 courses), but it's better than what Maryville will take. Walden said they'd accept all of my credits, which is tempting. However, they are also a for-profit school and I'm more hesitant to go there. We'll see what happens with Alabama first.

Hello. I also included Maryville on my FASFA, but didn't add them when I signed the master promissory note.

One of my former CCU coworkers completed the dual FNP/ ACNP at USA and is working for one of the pulmonologist . Hope you get accepted soon.

Hello. Just curious. What kinds of negative changes occurred in their FNP program that made you feel like changing schools?
