Hello I am currently a sophomore at a SUNY community college close by to where I live. Right now my major is undeclared, but I hope to transfer out after this semester into SUNY Plattsburghs nursing program. I have a 3.32 GPA as of right now and have taken all the prerequisites that I need to get into SUNY Plattsburghs nursing program as well as all of the extra classes that they recommended, but are not needed, to get into the program.
I don't know if this matters or not but I am a male and my reasoning for wanting to become a nurse is because my mother was diagnosed with cancer 8 years ago and passed away 4 years ago so I was always in and out of the hospitals visiting her and such and saw how the nurses did their jobs and how much they helped my mother during her 4 year battle with cancer and it inspired me to pursue a career in nursing myself.
SUNY Plattsburgh is without a doubt my dream school because not only do they have a well respected nursing program but also my Aunt attended SUNY Plattsburgh and got her bachelors in business from their along with the fact that out of all the schools I have visited SUNY Plattsburgh is the only one that felt like home to me. So anyways with all that said do you think my chances of getting into SUNY Plattsburgh are good or no? And regardless of if they are good or not do you have any advice for me to be able to have an even better chance of getting accepted into their nursing program?
I already applied to the program for Fall of 2014 about 2 months ago and all the rest of my information is in. (Also I applied to SUNY Plattsburgh after my freshman year of college as an undeclared major and got a $1,000 scholarship to attend there but I decided to stay at my community college to get my pre reqs out of the way to try and transfer into the nursing program). Like I said if anyone has any insight of my chances of being accepted as well as things I can do to have a better chance of being accepted into the nursing program at SUNY Plattsburgh I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

It comes down to how they look at your application. Your GPA isn't particularly competitive, honestly, but if there are other factors that are being considered, then maybe. Did you apply to more than one program? Unless one has a 4.0 GPA and scores perfectly on the entrance exam (HESI, TEAS), I would say to apply to more than one program.
Your gender and your reasoning for being a nurse are not likely factors that are being considered. What did you see on their website for the different components they use?
