Chances and Advice on getting in?!

Hi, I am currently a pre-nursing student in a Florida Public University

I currently have a 3.4 cumulative GPA and a 3.9 science pre-req gpa

I am a registered CNA with not much work experience (only a little over a month) and I also have volunteer work in the hospital.

I also have one good letter of recommendation

I am trying to get into either USF or UCF for their bsn program.

What are my chances of getting in to a BSN program?

I have a C in bio which is not required but its bringing down my cumulative gpa and idk whether to retake it or not. I also have a C in english 2 and a C in some old humanities class which is also not required.

Advice? and what are my chances?

It really just depends on what classes the school looks at when accepting students for nursing. Do they look at overall GPA or just the nursing prereqs? If the school looks at the overall GPA, then definitely retake some classes because 3.4 overall isn't competitive. You also need to find out if retaking classes will lessen your chance of getting accepted, because in my nursing program it did.

Best of luck!

The schools want any physical science like biology and chemistry and I have both. My chemistry is an A. They also look at both cumulative and pre requisite gpa. The average for both schools for those who applied was 3.8 for both pre req and cumulative but the nursing advisor said they accepted some with gpas as low as 3.5.

I think you should go ahead and apply with your grades as is. Your GPA looks fine.

I agree with FutureNurseInfo just believe in yo' self

You mention Biology, but what about A&P I and II, and maybe Microbiology? My state school in NY looks at those the most and if you aced those, it will go a long way to overcoming your C in Bio 101. We also have to have a C+ for any pre-req to count so look into that. By the time I was ready to apply, I knew more about the program than the Health careers adviser!
