Certifications

Hello! I am graduating in May and currently looking for jobs. I will be doing my preceptorship in L&D and my top choices for jobs are L&D and NICU. I'm applying to other areas as well but I was wondering what certifications are beneficial in Ob/Gyn nursing? i.e. ACLS, PALS, etc. I would like to obtain at least a couple of certifications before I graduate. Thanks in advance!

    Being a new grad will bring you all sorts of challenges in the next year. You will be learning so much while orienting to your chosen area to practice. As a new grad, don't bog yourself down in even more. If the area you are working in requires ACLS or PALS, then they will set you up with that training. It is not expected of you before you get there. Believe me, you will have enough to do and learn. Good luck to you and congrats on your upcoming graduation.

    I totally agree! The department you end up working in will set you up with getting their required certifications. Don't worry about getting them before applying. :)

    Thanks for the information! I guess I was just hoping to add something to my resume that made me look a little more desirable than another graduate nurse. I'm just nervous about finding a job! :o

    I was able to do my ACLS, so have BLS and ACLS on my resume. My school offered it though. I will do any other certifications required for a position through that department. :)

    some kind of basic lactation training. You could look into getting a CLC

    Those are some certifications that would help, but I agree with the others that no OB unit is expecting a new grad to have any kind of certifications, and they will anticipate providing that for you.
