Certifications

so i need some graduate nurse advice...

i will be graduting in january and taking my boards in late january/early febuary. i currently have a full scholarship with the local hospital and have been told that the new grad program is under review and they are not sure when they will be putting positions up; my contract is legally binging and if i violate it i will owe around 10,000.

my questions are....should i obtain certifications in acls and pals in the time that i have waiting to hear about a job? also, should i go ahead and try to obtain certifications in the specialty that i plan on entering after about a year on a med-surg unit? i plan on becoming a labor&delievery nurse...i love bringing babies into the world. for any l&d nurses out there, what are some certifications you would reccommend that a new grad nurse can get?

thanks so much for any feedback! :) :redbeathe

I know that you will need Neonatal Resuscitation for L&D, EFM courses might be good too. You could try asking in the OB nursing forum. Personally, I am hoping to get reimbursed by my future employer for my continuing ed! Where you work might also have certain requirements on who certifies you, etc. If I don't get a job in the next few months I will reconsider.
