CCAC Spring 2016

Published

Would like some advice from everyone! I may just be hopeless though. I have been at CCAC off and on for about 5-6 years, I went into CCAC wanting to become a nurse but then had changed my mind, etc, etc. Now i know nursing is what i want to do. Anyways, when I first started out my grades werent good, i didnt fail a lot of classes but got a lot of C's in courses i could have gotten A's if i would have applied myself more. So, I have finished all of the pre and co reqs required for nursing aside from A&P 2. Science isnt my strong point and I got C's in both A&P 1 and micro recently. Therefore, there wont be any extra GPA calculations when i go to apply for the nursing program. At the end of this summer i was fed up having been in school so long and just saw i could get a degree so i applied for graduation with an AA degree in Liberal Arts. However, I still want to apply for the nursing program but my GPA is a measly 2.8. When i met with the advisor about applying for the liberal arts degree i told her i had wanted to apply to the nursing program but my gpa wasnt high enough. She said something along the lines of "With all these classes it will take forever to bring it up". I know the cut-off is 2.8 to apply but from the sounds of it I def wont get in with that. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking about applying just on a whim, thinking maybe not a lot of people will apply. I wish there were other ways besides just the GPA to determine your eligibility like work experiece, letters of reccomendation or essays but from the looks of it, there isnt. i was thinking i could take some classes this fall and try to raise my GPA but i dont want to shell out the money if it wont be worth it, and as the advisor said it will be really difficult to raise it because of the amount of credits i already have. Thanks to whoever reads this!!

Your thread has been moved to the Nursing Schools and Colleges forum where the other school specific discussions are. We hope you will receive additional responses in this new location.

I just graduated from this school. You could always apply and take a risk. BUT, my personal feeling on the topic after finishing the program and meeting other students is that only the highest GPA's are getting in. They get so many applicants and they take the best of the best so I hate to be discouraging but I think that is too low. :sorry:

I know this post is older and you may have made a decision by now but also putting the information out there for others who may be in your situation.
