Case Western Graduate Entry Program

Hi All,

I am a prospective student for Case Western Reserve University's Graduate Entry. I am a senior psych major at a state school and will have a 3.4 GPA when I graduate (I'm guessing my pre-req GPA will be about 3.4 as well). I always knew I was going to be a health professional; I took the psych major because I wanted to have the additional patient empathy and understanding beyond treating "the leg in 341" or "the spleen in 254" and provide a well-rounded caregiving experience. I have a couple of questions for someone who is in/has recently completed the program, and I would be SO grateful for your input.

First, I am worried about my transcripts. I will have 2 failed classes, 4 repeated classes, 3 C's and a D. These were mainly due to sickness/deaths of family members (not in my immediate unit, but I have a very close-knit family) or going to an extremely advanced private school my freshman year when I was 18 that I was not academically prepared for.

However, I have good GRE scores, spent time volunteering in hospitals and shadowing nurses, have tons of extra curricular activities (i.e., teaching catechism and being a TA), and have many reputable sources who could write letters of recommendation about how hard I work, how I empathize and work well with others, and my positive, motivated attitude. I've been told by many people that I am very well-spoken and communicate well in writing, which are two skills crucial for nursing school.

This semester I am going to finish up some pre-requisite courses (anatomy, phys, a&p lab, and chem), but my semester ends right before the deadline (May 1) and I won't be able to send a completed transcript out.

My main question is: do you think admissions officials would even consider me as a candidate for this program? I have the drive and the ability to succeed and I hope the aforementioned unfortunate circumstances do not hold me back. To be cliche, I want this more than I have ever wanted anything in my life.

Thanks for reading!

Did you end up getting into the program? I just found out I was accepted, but I know very little about it and I haven't been able to connect with anyone else in it.

Hi! I was accepted for Fall 2012...when will you two be starting?

Moved to Ohio State Nursing Programs.

I'm very interested in Case for my MSN as they offer a focus in cardiovascular unlike others I have found. Any ideas on how to afford it?! I could go to OSU for my MSN free, but no cardiovascular specialty and that's what I love...

UH and CWRU probably have some sort of partnership related to nursing.

I know they used to (found it on the UH website) but I can't find it anymore. I'm not sure if that means it no longer exists or it's now become top secret :)
