Case manager back to floor?

Hi All. ☺️ So was hoping to get opinions/thoughts/perspectives .... I have been a nurse for 8 years...1 year of med/surg, 5 1/2 years L&D and 1 1/2 years as a nurse care manager...I work for a great company, make good money but sorely miss being at the bedside. I knew since I was four that I wanted to be L&D ...loved it but was burnt out at the end because I was weekend option nights and started not sleeping well....plus the last of my kids went to school etc. I have tried really hard to like this cushy job...I mean many nurses aspire to want a good paying desk job right? (Am asking)

well after 1 1/2 years of it I decided I couldnt/can't do it anymore...I now have an interview for an OB position at a hospital five min from home. I miss three days a week...and the interaction with the patients and babies...this will be mother/baby but I believe with opportunity to float to L&D 😍 plus it is days... Anyway else leave the bedside and then went back? Anyone not miss it at all? Just wondering if my colleagues (u all) think this is crazy so I figured I would post. Ultimately I do know what is right for me but do enjoy others opinions ☺️ Afraid of 'stepping backwards' though please don't wrong I think bedside is wayyyyyyyy better 😊

    I definitely don't think you're crazy. I am not currently working but worked 5 yrs in L&D then left it for outpatient wound care for similar reasons: burn out, kids starting school, daycare hours, traveling husband, etc. I liked the hours of wound care, but the pay sucked and I was constantly having my hours cut because the full time doc took afternoons off to see patients at an LTAC. I liked not having to work weekends or having to take call shifts. I was not a huge fan of working 5 days a week and it was difficult to schedule appointments. I am not currently working right now because I live overseas and there are not many jobs so I am a full time mom and tourist. I'm kind of torn on what sort of job I would like to have when we are back in the US. I am thinking of maybe working per diem to get my feet wet again. I'll have been a nurse for 10 years this summer. Good luck with your interview.

    I worked L&D for 5 years then went to an obgyn office for 7 years. I had gone through a divorce, didn't have a lot of family support, so I felt that a consistent Monday through Friday job would be better for my kids. I missed the floor so so much! I was just about to take a management position in the office, but I knew that really was not where my heart was. My girls are now all over 18 and I am back in L&D. BEST DECISION I HAVE MADE IN A LONG TIME! I am infinitely happier and feel "home" again. Good luck on your interview!
