Cardiothoracic Surgery Stepdown Interview

Published

Hello all :) I am interviewing for a CT Surgery Stepdown unit soon and am beyond excited for the opportunity! I recently graduated with a BSN and passed my boards, and this will be my first in-person interview! I'm very nervous but would appreciate any tips/advice prior to my interview. Thank you so much!

I may have posted this in the wrong forum! I found the "Nursing Career Advice" forum.

Hi SajRN,

Congrats on getting a interview. You are already past one stage on the application process! Since this is your first interview I would recommend looking up some interview questions so you are prepared for those. Next you want to be dressed professionally. For a female you could wear a nice knee length skirt or a pair of dress pants. You can wear a blazer but it's not necessary. I think I nice blouse that is not too low cut or see through is fine. I think you should keep colors neutral. I have read the best colors for an interview are black, brown, white/cream, and navy. Keep jewelry to a minimum and I think hair should be pulled back if it is long. Also, bring PLENTY of copies of your resume, and references. It may be a panel interview and you want to have many copies of your resume for everyone. Lastly, don't forget to ask for a business card from everyone you interviewed with, so you can send them a thank you note when the interview is over.

Good Luck to you!

Hi hopeless romantic,

Thank you for your response! I appreciate the advice and will keep it all in mind. I should have mentioned that the interview will first consist of a shadow of the unit with an assigned nurse then an interview with the unit manager immediately afterwards. I was informed that I will be dressed in scrubs for both the shadow and the interview.

The idea of a panel interview gives me the chills! In regards to your last piece of information, I will be sure to bring copies of my certifications and resume! Do you think my submitted cover letter will be necessary as well?

Thank you!

Yes. I would bring my cover letter also. Even if they don't need it. I would rather be prepared then not
