Can I request an extended start date?

Hello everyone!

I've recently gotten a full time position at Duke Hospital and was told my start date will be 7/6/21.

I understand how important this job is and how hard it was to even secure a job at this hospital.

However, I am nervous. I will be graduating in May and moving to Durham, NC for this position with little money to start out with. Also, I'm nervous about failing my NCLEX because the start date allows no time for retesting.

My question is, is it okay to ask for an extended start date for orientation to a floor as a new grad nurse? I don't want to risk moving out to Durham just to fail the NCLEX, lose this job, and end up homeless. (I'm exaggerating but you know what I mean)
