Can you help me?

I just found out that so far my overall GPA for the pre-nursing perquisite classes I have took is a 3.65 and my cumulative GPA for all course I have done is a 3.1. I'm hoping by the time I finish the rest of my prerequisites and other courses both my GPA's will go up. Do you think I have a good enough shot to get into at least one nursing program?

Also, I have no volunteer experience, is that really a big deal or should I start volunteering as soon as possible?

One more question, do I need to take nursing classes before applying to the program?

It depends on your school. Are you going for a ADN or BSN? You will have to take prereqs. At my school no classes starting with NRSG can be taken unless you are in the program. My school does not look at cumulative GPA they go off a points system. But there is a required 2.5 GPA to get in. Many community colleges do what my school does and 4 year colleges look at a cumulative GPA. A 3.1 is kinda low if it is a BSN program. My school looks at 4 classes. A&P I and II, Psych 101, and English 111. You are given more points for the A&P classes. Also our Teas score is added in and we are given a point total. You need around 161 to get in and I think I will have a 168. I would definitely talk to a nursing advisor.

The only one who can know the answers to these questions correctly, absolutely, is going to be your nursing program advisor at your specific school. Volunteer experience is a big deal at some, not at others. Below a 3.5 is a big deal at some, not at others. and on and on.

Ask your advisor!
