I am a nursing student graduating in May, so to get a head start I am beginning to apply for new grad nurse positions. I applied for a FT nights position at the NICU at a hospital literally this morning at 12AM, and this morning I wake up to an email saying I was not chosen for the position. It just seems like an extremely fast rejection to me and besides feeling shot down...I want to know why, but I feel hesitant calling them and asking for reasons when I didn't even get to an interview. Do you think it is appropriate to call them or should I just move on?

It can't hurt to call and find out why. But at the same time, get used to this. A lot of HR's have a very efficient screening system and if the application does not meet the requirements, it is not even looked at. I receive rejection emails on a daily basis, but the way I feel about it is that I am just saturating the market. I apply to anything and everything that I am eligable for. I don't know where you are located but a lot of hospital's wont look at an application until you have your license. I started applying before I graduated too and it did helo because I had profiles set up at a lot of hospital websites that made it easier to apply later on.

agreed^^. get used to it. not to put you down, but it's very competitive out there. not every application you fill out will get you an interview. out of the many (and i mean hundreds..) of applications i've filled out, i've only received 3-4 interviews. what the poster said before me was correct, they have screeners. pretty much if you dont meet their qualifications in one way or another, your resume gets trashed (or according to them, kept on file for X months).
all you can do is keep applying. everywhere and anywhere.
good luck!

I was told at one place that I applied that if you do not have a GN permit, then it will automatically disqualify you.
You're right, at least I will have my application out there. I guess I will just have to get used to rejection..it's going to be a long road! Thanks for your help :)
