Calling All Circulators!!!!

I am currently working in an ASC doing pre-op and PACU....they are looking to train me as a circulator....my question is do I want this job? I would ask our full time circulator how she likes it but she literally left in the middle of cases today without warning (she has MAJOR personal issues and after abandoning pts I am sure she wont be back)....so it isn't an option and we mostly just have agency filling in....--- Anyway....I am asking all circulators for the pros and cons of their jobs:nurse: ...thanks in advance for the help!!

There is a huge learning curve. It takes a long time to become proficient. Surgeons sometimes act like babies. It is highly technical as you will have to trouble shoot mis-behaving equipment. It is a wonderful and fascinating career. Most RN's know within a very short time if they are cutout for it. Good luck.

hi,

i have just started working in the OR in the UK and we do not have set circulating nurses, we are trained to scrub, circulate, assist the anaesthatist and recover patients in PACU. we do this at my hospital on 6month rotations but if i had the choice i would circulate full time as i love it.

good luck with whatever choice you make!icon10.gif
