Just curious - if you are in the TCC nursing program - are you allowed to use calculators - or are you expected to do it all in or head or on paper?

You are allowed to use calculators for all of the tests. You will have a math test at the beginning of each semester, and you will need to bring your own calculator for those. All of the other exams will have at least two math questions on them as well. You can use the calculator on the computer for the math on those tests. Good luck to you.
OH GOOD!! I was reading over the Student Handbook on the TCC website and saw that you have to make a 90% on the dosage tests or you are out. I am horrible with math started freaking out. Knowing I can use a calculator gives me a little more comfort. lol

I'm not sure when you're starting, but if you want to get a good head start....TCC uses diminsional analysis for the medication math. A person will get a second chance at the beginning of the semester if you make less than a 90% on the first test, but I never wanted to go there. Can you just imagine the anxiety level of people during their second chance exam?? It would be horrible. Just make sure you know this stuff and can do it with your eyes closed!
One of the best things you can do is take extra classes or whatever the nursing program offers on this. They had a special class when I learned it. This is very serious. Do whatever you can to learn this. It's very important!

Thank you so much for this heads-up. I will definatly look into taking an extra class. I havent even applied to NS yet - still finishing up the last of my pre-regs. But I want to be as prepared as I possibly can. :)
