CA.LVN to RN Bridge Program

Has anyone here in CA gone through this program? I have been an LVN for 25 years and tired of the lack of respect and poor pay that we receive. I am considering going the "30 unit option" through Antelope Valley College in the Lancaster/Palmdale area. How difficult is it to get through the program? I don't have any pre-requisites yet, but would only have to take Micro and Human Physiology.

I thought the 30 unit option u will only be allowed to practice in CA under your RN license. Most schools offer the bridge from LVN to RN with you having to only take your prereqs and 2 semesters of the RN program. Look into it more.

I am an LVN who lives in Palmdale. (Just up the road from you) I attend Antelope Valley college. I am doing the Associates Degree program which takes 2 years. Afer completing pre-req's (Anatomy, Physiology, and Microbiology) I will take a 5 week LVN to RN bridge program in the summer and then I will start the RN program in the 3rd semester. For the 30 unit option you don't need Sociology, Algebra, Philosophy or Speech, you just have to take pre-req's and then you will go on to the bridge program. It will probably take about the same amount of time to do either the 30 unit option or the Associates Degree because there are pre-req's to the pre-req's. (ex. Biology 101 before Anatomy, Chemistry before Microbiology) Good luck to you and if you have any questions please feel free to write.

Beware! If you go 30 unit you will only be able to practice in the state of California and if you decide to get a degree it will not go towards the 30 unit option. It is pretty limited. But if you have no intentions of leaving CA I say go for it but still read the fine print.

It would be worth your time to just get your ADN instead of the 30-unit option. Should you decide later down the road that you want to get your BSN, it'll be less hassle (not to mention the headache) with taking the extra classes that was required of you had you went ahead and opted for your ADN. With your ADN, you can practice outside of California, whereas with a 30-unit option certificate you really are restricted to just California. Hope that helps! RN school was tough, but if you're determined to get your RN, then nothing should prevent you from achieving your goals! YOU CAN DO IT! Remain positive and stay away from deceptive classmates!
