BSN Strap Program?

Long story short, I was active for 4 years (11B), got out, got my ADN and now am in a BSN program. I am looking to get into the guard through the STRAP program for BSN nurses and wanted to know if anyone has experience with the program. Is it as simple as it sounds, 2:1 commitment while they are paying you and your only focus is finishing school and doing your military commitment afterward? Are you attached to a unit while in school or do you get attached once you graduate? How long after do you have before you go to OLBC? I met with a recruiter today about the program and he knew nothing about it, meeting with a new recruiter in a few days so hopefully he is better prepared. Please only comment if you have experience with the program or know someone who has, thanks.

Disclaimer: I am VERY familiar with the military, military lifestyle and all that it entails, I am simply asking about this specific program.

Assuming you are going to school full time, yes it is that simple. You're attached to APMC (google, they have a website) during your time in school. You fill out some paperwork every six months showing you're still enrolled and showing how much longer you have. Upon completion you are transferred within APMC until you go to OBC. OBC can take as long as a year to schedule. Once you graduate OBC, you're assigned to a unit on their rotation schedule. The unit is not necessarily one near you; in that case you just drill with a local unit and submit paperwork to either the unit you assigned to or apmc if you stay affiliated with them.

Look into the reserve, as promotion rates and slots available for the NG are not as plentiful. For instance: my state had two nurse slots, but had seven nurses.

Thanks for the info, greatly appreciated. I had previously looked into the reserves but they stopped their Strap program but now I look at the site and see they are doing it again, time to call the recruiter!
