BSN programs info??

I am currently a college student looking to complete a bachlor degree in biology or nursing. I am unsure as to what courses are included in nursing school. I know the pre reqs include science, math, and chemistry. But does nursing school include more of these types of classes, especially science?? i ask because i love science and medicine. From what i have researched, nursing schools DO NOT include any sciences. can anyone enlighten me as to what is learned or what classes are taken in a BSN program?? thank you.

In my BSN program which I am starting on Wednesday, I have to take Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, Health Assessment, Legal Aspects of Nursing, Fundamentals of Nursing, and Adult Nursing I. I am in a second degree program and I will finish in 20 months. The rest of the classes I have to take is maternity, pediatrics, med-surg II, Psych, etc. I don't have to take anymore hard core science classes. The only science classes that were required were the pre-reqs to get into nursing school which can vary from school to school. The only other science classes I know that you have to take is if you go to the master's program for nurse anesthesia is General Chem I and II and General Physics I and II.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck

Hello, as listed above, once you begin a BSN program you will take Patho and Pharm in your first semester, and after that its all nursing courses. However, I've found that for the first time since I began college..I'm actually using these core classes..never thought I'd say that! You are always using your assesment skills, once in an Acute care class you go deeper into the things your learned in patho, and pharm never goes away. I like it b/c I'm actually using the biology knowledge in the real world, I'm not just memorizing info only to forget it the next semester. Hope all goes well for you.

Just wanted to add on here. I took microbiology, anatomy and physiology, and clinical nutrition as prerequisites to nursing school. You will find that all the science courses are selected for patient care. Each one is extremely important. Once in the nursing school I took pathophysiology, pharmacology, ... and so on. It was all useful to me when left school. You will here critical thinking a million times in school. They do that for a reason. Contrary to popular belief, nurses have to be alot smarter than doctors. We have to see and assess our patients, put 2 and 2 together, and take responsiblity for the treatment given. When its all said and done your future patients will be grateful to have some one looking out for them. Sounds like a good decision. Just remember its about the patients.

Good Luck
