Hi,
I am new to this website and I wanted to know my chances of getting into an accelerated BSN program anywhere in Pennsylvania. I graduated from PSU with a BS in science and attended a medical assistant school to get some medical knowledge and experience. I know that none of the medical assistant credits will transfer, so I'm taking the some of the pre-reqs at PSU and want to start BSN program in May 2010. I have volunteer hours and experience in the field as an MA. I am also a MALE. What are my chances of getting in?
Thank you.

I'm still a pre-nursing student myself but my take on your questions comes from the info I have gained on here. Not familiar with the situation specific to PA, but what I can tell you is that the competition anywhere is greater in schools that are cheaper, particularly state schools. Also, your best bet is to ace your prerequisites, as many of your fellow candidates are doing the same. Your experience as a volunteer and MA are pluses for sure. As for your being male, I have not seen this to be a particular advantage in the application process, though at some schools I would not doubt that it MAY play a role when it comes to tiebreaking. UPenn was once named one of the best nursing schools for men, though that was back in 2006, not sure if that's changed:
