Bridging Program 2017 / 457 / PR Australia

Hello Nurses,

Hw you all doing this year :)? I'm new to this forum and found it very informative on Internet.

Getting straight to the topic. Anyone trying for Australian RN/457/PR this year?

I've been hearing a lot of rumours of either removing bridging program or RN from SOL list after immigration changes announced by PM.

Not sure how is it going to be. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Planning for BP this August. So far in my list is ETEA(Adelaide) & IHNA(Melbourne). Any suggestions?

I'm working in Singapore now. Once done with the BP probably by Dec'17, I will be coming back to S'pore and keep trying for any sponsorship(which is tough) same time apply for PR.

Let me know who else is planning this year and I hope we all can share our thoughts and experience which will be useful to everyone :).

Forget about 457 mate, it's on it's way out and I know some people who's currently being put on hold because the employers are still unsure of the new effects.

For namesake, when 2017 changes take effect, SOL is officially out of the window and is now termed as "Medium and Long Term Strategic Skill List" (MLTSSL -- That's a lot of letters to remember)

This list is determined through a formal review and is published through education.gov.au and suggestions were in for the 2017-2018 review as early as November 2016, half a year before PM Malcolm Turnbull announced immigration changes. So for what it's worth, I doubt if nurses will be taken off the list. Based from the current MLTSSL (2016-17), nurses are still very much needed. See

Generally, an occupation will be flagged a year or two before it is removed from the MLTSSL.

As for the bridging program, that's up to the Education Sector and registration bodies, not immigration. As long as AHPRA issues a letter permitting you to do the bridging program and a school is permitted to offer the course then you shouldn't have any problems. PS: These rumors have been around for a long time.

Assuming the best that you pass the bridging, you would get your registration no matter where you decide to study. IHNA though I heard now runs 6 month programs as opposed to 3. You should consider living expenses, accommodation options, and flexibility when doing your clinical placements.

All the best! Both options are good but I wouldn't place my money on 457s though, too murky at the moment.
