Best place to go

U.S.A. Washington DC

Published

I am looking for information and opinions on the best place to go after graduation in the DC area. I'm not from around there, but I'd like to relocate after graduation and DC is one of the areas I'm looking at.

I'll have an ADN (and a BA from a previous life) and I want to go into Critical Care with an eye towards CRNA someday. I've seen different things about G'Town, GWU, and Wash Hosp Center, but I'd like some opinions from folks who've done it. Specifically, I'm interested in ICUs, Training (ie Crit Care Internships), and also things like general hospital info, living/working in the area, benefits, and finishing my BSN.

Any info would be greatly appreciated! And also about other hospitals than the three I mentioned.

Thanks!

What is a CRNA? I'm a CNA now and still don't know a lot of things.

CRNA = Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.

An RN who has recieved advanced training (and usually a Master's Degree or Doctoral Degree) in perioperative care and anesthesia. They provide anesthesia just like anesthesiologists. In fact, they provide the majority of anesthetics in the United States every year.

That's what I'm thinking of doing. I'm graduating with associate degree this December. Do you have any suggestions where I should start with? I'm thinking of critical care. How does the nurse anesthetist program looks like?

I'll be grateful.

Specializes in PICU.

I work at Children's Hospital and work in the PICU. It is part of a new grad internship. It is six months long. right now I am on week 7, so I am feeling a little frustrated, but I guess this is normalI have PICU classes and I am assigned to a preceptor. I like it. DC is a great place to live. I have lived here for 7 years. I had previous degrees and careers before nursing, so I just finished school in May. My internship started in August.

Let me know if you have any other questions about DC, etc
