I personally could not live or survive without the Manual of nursing practice by Lippicott,it is very expensive (roughly 80 bucks can get it at borders but you might as well try online for better prices) yet it so worth the money...it has all the nursing procedure you can imagine so it comes in handy when you have to look up some skill you are unfamilar with also it summarizes the diseases, patho, medical as well as nursing care,it is really a piece of solid reference and also I cant live without my huge atlas of pathophysiology (I think it was 60),it has the picture of diseased and normal organs of the body and neat summary below it.Also I have an picture encyclopedia of clinical skills, that takes through every step of the procedure and it comes with the picture. Those books to me are an essential must since I figure that I cant be a good, respected nurse if I cant grasp the anatomy as well as the pathology of the body and also knowing the indications for different diseases as well as skills. So in summary nursing is a lifelong learning experience and nursing school l is a just a paper-thin foundation.

The "Made Incredibly Easy" series, especially fluid and electrolytes and ECG interpretation.
thanks, i have most of the increadibly easy books. i have looked at the lippincott book - and it is a good one. i think i will order it along with the atlas of pathophysiology. one of my favorite collections is the "memory notebook of nursing" (they have a pharmacology book also). it has great pictures/diagrams that help you learn the information.
thanks for everybody's input.
Also if I knew what I know now I would buy a 12 disc DVD set NCLEX review by Judy Miller but I'm warning you in advance it is 800 dollars, you can order it online. The instructor touches up on all the stuff that was mentioned on my nursing exam, those 12 dvd alone would let me pass nursing school with flying color instead of reading all those long boring books.
