Bedside RN to Project Manager?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello everyone, I just wanted to reach out to my colleagues to see if you guys could help me since I'm having such a difficult time figuring this out on my own. I have my BSN, and have been a bedside nurse for 8 years, with my specialties being in Hem/Onc/BMTU. But my issue is that I want to transition out of bedside nursing and am pretty sure I want to get into project management... But I don't know the first thing about how to even transition into that role. In the actual job descriptions of a nurse project manager.. I feel that the essential job duties are something that I could definitely do and feel like nurses do these types of duties everyday.. Possible just on a smaller scale, but when it comes to experience in project management.. That's where I begin to get discouraged. I know I don't have experience in it, but am wondering if there are any entey level positions that could get my foot in the door.. Or if there are other roles or job titles that can get me into that area. I guess I'm just trying to see if this transition is even feasible for a bedside nurse to get into. I was thinking about trying to take some classes..like an intro to project management, but wanted input to see if anyone has had any similar experiences. Thanks again :)
