Could applicants of these schools please tell me what the interviewing process was like at each school. And if you got in could you tell me what exactly you were working with (GPA, CCRN or not, yrs of experience, ect...)? This also includes the applicants who were not accepted. What do you think you were "missing." Thanks you guys! :D

Well I only applied to UT-Houston. The interview process, I have to say, was not what I expected (but in a good way). I was really expecting to be grilled about clinical conditions and drugs and ACLS + all of the behavioral stuff, but really it was very relaxed and mostly behavioral interview questions with a few (very reasonable) clinical questions thrown in. I just found out today that I am in, so I guess that I prepared well enough. My stats are as follows:

GPA: 4.0, CCRN (yes), 2 years CVICU experience, and I have a very strong science background (previous degree in molecular biology).

The best advice I could offer you is to

  1. Get all of the cerifications you can CCRN, CEN, TNCC
  2. Enroll as a non-degree seeking post-baccalaureate student and take core courses this year
  3. Take as many CEUs as you can: 12-lead, Hemodynamics,CCRN review
  4. Buy a behavioral interview question book and be prepared for your interview

Best of luck. It is a long journey, but when you get that acceptance letter it will be soooooooooooooooooo worth it.

Best Regards,

LonghornRN
