ASU Post-Bacc 2014

Hello everyone,

This is my first post! What a valuable resource this site has been for me! A little background on myself to begin:

I am 24, male, and have a degree from ASU in Business Marketing (2012). I have been working all year on prerequisites required for consideration in ASU's Post-Bacc BSN program, which (if you are unfamiliar) is a program that allows people with degrees to get their BSN in 12 months after completion of pre-reqs. It requires a minimum 3.50 select GPA and 58.7% score on the TEAS to even be considered.

I received A's in all prerequisites except for a sophomore-year psychology 101 class, which was a B. This makes my application GPA a 3.89 (instead of a 4.0 ). I just took the TEAS yesterday, and got a 91.3% (99th percentile national, 98th percentile in the ASU BSN program overall).

Do any accepted applicants have opinions on my scores? What do you think the chances of me getting into the program are? If you can speak to your experience with the application and admissions process, that would be great. I think I am doing well, and I believe after they look at my application and see that I have straight A's on all of my medical-related prerequisites, they won't discredit my GPA with the one psychology class.

Also, anyone else applying? How has the process been? Our apps are due soon!

Looking at last year's class, I don't think you'll have a problem. I also applied for the 2014 program. I have the same GPA as you and my TEAS was only 88%. I had one advisor tell me that the average coming in (at that time) was a GPA of 3.9 and TEAS at 88%. So I guess we'll see what happens. Oh, an advisor also said that there have been GPA's in the 3.7 and 3.8 range admitted but it does seem to have become even more competitive over the last couple of years! Have you submitted your application yet?

I just submitted my application yesterday and was told they were expecting somewhere between 60 and 80 applicants for the 40 spots available. I think your GPA and TEAS scores are great, but I guess it all depends on how we compare with the rest of this year's applicant pool. It will be nerve-wracking waiting until November to hear if we've been accepted!

My biggest problem with the application process has been with Undergraduate Admissions not being able to find my official transcripts. I had to submit petitions when I turned in my application because transcripts for my prerequisite courses are not on file yet. I just requested that official transcripts be sent AGAIN, so hopefully they won't get lost among the thousands of other transcripts and they'll actually post to my account this time.

The petition should be a problem khausig, I hve one right now too because my fingerprint clearance card is still in processing. I know that it is going to be competitive, but I am really hoping that they don't DQ people if 40 people with 4.0s apply to the program.

And yes Shadowbandit1, I have reviewed all the other posts from last year's class, and saw an individual get in that got a slightly lower TEAS score as well as a slightly lower GPA. So I am truly hoping this is the case in the 2014 rotation. I have been working my tail off to get this far, and really want to get into this program desparately! I've never wanted anything more!

Hopefully we all get in and meet at the workshop in December! I'll keep monitoring this thread; as you all get information/updates/acceptance letters, keep updating! I will too!

Rtyo1, you said in your original post that you have all A's in your other classes. Did you use the B from your psychology course as one of your select GPA grades (one of the 8 indicated on your application)? If not, that B won't count at all during the admission process. So, even through you have a 3.89, you'd have a 4.0 for your select GPA. But, even if you do count it as one of your 8 to make up the select GPA, a 3.89 is a fantastic GPA. I think you'll be near the top of the list - especially in combination with your excellent TEAS score!

We have too many threads going. Let's pick this one lol. I guess the next step is that we should all receive emails next week confirming that our applications have been received. Is that the understanding that everyone else has also?

khausig, I had the same problem with my transcripts. I had to have them sent 3 times and when I met with the advisor when I turned in my application, they still were not showing up. She called undergraduate admissions and they were in the system but she still couldn't see them. She finally ran a DARS report and then they were there! Strange! Anyway, I also have a petition in for my last Hep B shot that will not be completed until December.

Jimmyphx74, I think you're right about the email in the next 2 weeks. I've been worried that I will not get one and then I'll call and will be told they have no record of receiving! Now that would be a nightmare!!

@Shadowbandit1...I was worried about the same thing. I handed my application to the girl at the front desk, got her name, and then when I got home I emailed the advisor I've been meeting with to let her know that I submitted my application today ... just in case.

Are we supposed to be able to see the classes we are transferring through MyASU? I don't seem to be able to, but the advisors can and the registrar's office can. But I have been told that I should be able to, so I don't know. Getting conflicting info makes me nervous

Thanks for the info on the DARS report. If the transcripts don't show up by the middle of next week, I'm going to ask them to run one for me! My petition was approved, but transcripts have to post by 9/15. So, that only gives me 2 weeks to get this mess straightened out.

Last year's students submitted their applications on October 1. I wonder if they had as many issues with the transcripts and deadlines...

Hey guys, I know I mentioned this before but keep in mind the wait list. A lot of applicants who are super competitive are ALSO applying to other programs. Even if they are offered a spot at ASU they may turn it down to pursue other options- at least 2 people in our class did. ASU receives a lot of applications from California and Colorado so many of those people will bail on the move prior to the start of class :-) Plus there is always UofA's MEPN program which most of you qualify for, it starts in May which gives you time to apply.

P.S. to ryto, pretty sure you posted those stats to troll. If not...you def got in dude. Congrats on the awesome TEAS score. I think the program average is like...77%

khausig, I only had 8 classes completed, including that "B" in psychology. So unfortunately, I had no choice but to apply with it.

I will keep an eye on the email inbox for the confirmation email and let you all know when I get it!

One of the other applicants told me she received word from the advising office that there are 68 applicants this year. That means we have better than 1 in 2 odds of getting in! I don't know about you, but that makes me pretty happy!

(As a followup to my previous post... undergraduate admission finally found my transcripts. Wahoo!)
