Arrest record with no convictions

Hello! I was recently accepted to an ADN program pending my approval from the Texas BON. I have an arrest record - misdemeanor charges from 1997 and 2003. I disclosed everything thru a declaratory order. My personal statement was very thorough. I attached documents from the public defenders office including a letter from the public defender stating that all charged were withdrawn and the cases are closed. I also included a copy of a recommendation letter from a colleague regarding my suitability for the nursing program. The charges were forgery and theft. I've always been the worrier, about everything.so this just has me a mess. It's my dream to become an RN but I'm terrified that the BON will say No. Can anyone give me info that will allow my mind to rest? I've been a medical assistant and phlebotomist for 9 years. I've had nothing since 2003.

If the charges were withdrawn, as in dismissed, I would think it can't be held against you. You could call your BON anonymously and ask them directly. Good luck.

It sounds like you've done all you can do right now. Just be patient and hope for the best...

And if the TX BON wants you to appear before them to discuss this matter, do NOT go without a lawyer by your side. The BON is not the nurse's friend: their focus is on licensing safe and competent nurses for the public's safety, not on cutting students a break. You can find lawyers versed in dealing with BONs here: TAANA Executive Office - Home

Best of luck.
