Applying to Direct Entry from Undergrad

Published

Hi Everyone,

I am currently an undergrad student at a liberal arts college and majoring in history while fulfilling prerequisites to apply to an accelerated nursing program. It may seem strange to major in the humanities when I know that I want to be a nurse, but I feel that a liberal arts education in its truest form is invaluable.

I have a question about applying to these types of programs. A bachelors degree is required, but can I apply my senior year before I have graduated? UPenn says this is okay according to their website, but does anyone have knowledge of the general policy for schools such as Johns Hopkins and Boston College?

Thank you!

Your first concern shouldn't be when to apply but instead whether you have the prerequisite courses done that the nursing programs require for an accelerated BSN student. You may feel that liberal arts provides an invaluable education but will you have all the necessary science components in place in order to be accepted into the nursing program? Typically you'd need Anatomy, Physiology (I & II), microbiology, pathology, chemistry (specified by type for the program) and all the associated labs as well. Do you have all of these done, or will be done by the time you apply, and have you gotten excellent grades in all of them?

The OP clearly stated that they are taking the necessary pre reqs for an accelerated program...
