Applying for BSN Program

I live in California, my cumulative GPA including my prerequisites is at a 3.4 I also have no experience with volunteering at hospitals. This Fall, I am planning on applying to BSN programs in California but have heard it is very competitive and I truly think I won't make it in. Can I get some advice about OOS BSN programs that are not that competitive to get into? I am also a guy which I heard that men have advantages in getting into nursing programs because their are a lack of men in the field so idk if it is truly an advantage or just a myth. I am willing to go to near by states such as Nevada, Oregon, and Arizona for school. I'm kinda new to this, so any tips or advice about getting into nursing school would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Guys are becoming more common in nursing. In all honesty, I cannot think of a single unit except maybe OB that does not have at least two or three guys on every shift. It is more of a myth now.

A lot of programs are moving towards a system that levels the playing field for everyone. All of the schools I have applied to do not look at volunteer work because it could be "fudged" by "volunteering" with mom or dad's best friend. Most are assigning points to a variety of different criteria. It would be to your benefit to find about 15 programs that you can afford and have met the requirements to get into. Most have started requiring pre-nursing coursework before you can even apply such as micro, anatomy, physiology, chemistry, etc. Research about 15 and then select about four to seven that you are willing to attend.

I'd even consider making a spread sheet to help see what requirements you need to fulfill before you apply. You will probably need to get your current credits evaluated to see if they transfer over to the new school.

I have another question, is the TEAS test hard? cause i have heard mix reviews on it and that schools expect you to score above at least 80 to be competitive.
