3. Proposes a state licensing exam for each APRN category, nurse anesthetist, nurse midwife and nurse practitioner, in other words an APRN version of the NCLEX. Credentialed certification bodies would keep the administration of specialty certification through exam or portfolio.
So would this be on top of the AMCB (midwifery) exam or instead of it? If my program is the only midwifery program in the state, and we're only graduating 6 midwives this year, would the state have to write an exam for 6 midwives? Or are they supposed to come up with some sort of general exam that won't cover material outside my scope of practice (and thus outside my educational scope) while covering the scope of practice of, say, an acute care nurse practitioner or CRNA, and making this exam in addition to the AMCB exam? This makes no sense to me at all, other than costing me more money in exam fees. If anyone has a different interpretation of this or can explain what this is actually saying, I would love to hear it.
