Anyone using dopplers in your facility?

Our DoN gave the go ahead to get a doppler ultrasound for the facility. Do any of you use a doppler in your facility, and if so, what kind do you use?

Any recommendations?

We have an Ultrasound for checking bladder residual. Our DON refused to let the MD teach us how to use it properly as she didn;t want the responsibility for the machine, its upkeep, or the results.

Dopplers are done outside but it would be amazing to have one inhouse.

We have small handheld portable ultrasound for measuring pulses and BPs.. what are you using yours for/what type?

If it's handheld portable - I've found the best and cheapest is the LifeDop 150. Only around $400 dep on where you get it, can get various mHz probes, battery operated and easy to clean between patients.

We really just need a simple one to check for pulses when the staff nurses can't feel a radial or pedal pulse they can do a doppler.

Thanks for pointing me in a direction so I know where to start research.

Does it matter what mhz because I've seen 5 and 8...I can use a doppler but I admit I am no expert when it comes to specific specifications.

We find the 8mHz better for our purposes, because they are better for superficial vessels. The 4 or 5 mHz are usually best for all-purpose general applications I believe. We trialled several devices, including Nicolet, before arriving at the LifeDop. No separate charger necessary (people lose them) and just seemed to work better.
