Anyone with only 1 OR??

The hospital I work at just recently took away our 2nd OR. They're going to be doing scheduled GYN surgeries in that OR, leaving us with just 1 OR. Supposedly we won't even have access to that OR, not sure how true that will be. Just wondering if anyone else out there has only 1 OR.

We all think this is a disaster in the making...They even plan on having a scheduled GYN surgery in that OR, and schedule c/s going on at the same time, effectively leaving us with no OR sometimes...They say we can always go to the main OR, which is at least a few minutes away even running, and there is no baby equipment down there...ugh

I once worked in a small, rural hospital that had only one OR. There was a day surgery OR that they considered a second OR in case of emergency.

I work in a rural hospital that only has 2 ORs for the entire hospital. And a lot of days both of those are booked simultaneously with "non OB" surgeries, leaving no open OR in case of emergency. To date, we have been lucky enough not to have a bad outcome b/c of this, although there have been several times that other surgeries have had to be "bumped" so they could do an urgent c/s between cases. But it has always been a cause for concern. Fortunately, we are going to be moving into a new facility next year, and hopefully this will no longer be a concern.
