Anyone in the fall 2010 cohort for the ABSN program at Concordia (in Irvine)?

I am looking for other students who will be starting Concordia University's accelerated BSN program in fall 2010 in Irvine. I would love to network as soon as possible and trade preparation tips, such as whether or not you will be buying a PDA, what kind of stethoscope you will be getting, what kind of backpack, etc. etc.

I really want to develop a good, strong support group - I think it's going to be necessary! I am also always thinking about the future and I want to prepare as much as I can while I still have free time, before the program begins! :nurse:

So tell me, are any of my future classmates out there???

I'm starting in Fall 2010 also! Just bought my books and am trying to read the message boards to figure out to expect. Haven't bought my stethoscope or any other supplies yet. What about you?!

Yay! I had just about given up hope!

I have been spending a ton of time here on AN and have learned so much already. I love this forum. I have bought a few textbooks so I can get started on our summer assignments, but haven't bought all of them yet. My stethoscope was just delivered to me a few days ago. I ended up ordering a Littman Classic II SE with my name engraved on it. I also have one set of the Dove Apparel scrubs, and just ordered a second set today.

I have been buying a lot of school supplies and am trying to put off on getting things for clinical, such as nursing shoes, clipboard, calculator, etc., in case we'll be instructed to buy particular brands/items.

So how stoked are you to start? Have you been counting down the days like I have??? ;)

Hey Hopeful-

I have messaged you before, I was just curious about how the online theology classes work. Where do we go on the "first" day of classes online? What do we need for the classes, will the teacher e-mail us before or is there a mandatory in class session before?

Thanks for your help! When is your first day?

Hi KRomney and Hopeful,

I am also taking the theology classes at CUI because I am in the 2010 COHORT for the accelerated BSN program!!!! I'm so excited and I can't wait to meet all of you! Please inform me on the class information also. Maybe be can exchange emails so we can communicate as we transition into the program...

Sincerely,

Blueberry!

HI CUIIRVINE,

I am also starting FALL 2010!!!I am looking forward to meeting you! I am kinda nervous about the program but I'm glad I have meet afew people on this website.

Sincerely,

Blueberry!

Congrats Blueberry! I am a little confused, are you starting the Theology classes this Fall or you took them over Summer? Regardless, if you have any information about how the classes start please let me know!

Hi KRomney,

Thank you!!! Congratulations also on getting in!! The theology classes are online and they start on AUG 27. I am in the SPRING 2011 COHORT but we have to take these classes in the FALL 2010 term. I had an interview on FRIDAY JULY 9, I think you had one on the 10th from what I have read on the thread. Anyways I am excited and can't wait to meet my fellow classmates!! Did you order your books for the course and the lab uniform yet??

Yay! I was confused at first! So glad to talk to a classmate! I have SO many questions. Have you paid for your Fall classes yet? I haven't paid the tuition yet. Yeah, my interview was July 10! I can't wait to meet everyone either, we have a long wait still haha! Anyways, I have not ordered my books, but I will this week and I have not ordered the lab uniform yet. I was going to order all of it, but I have read that the uniforms are HUGE so I was going to order one set, see how it fits and then go from there. I haven't decided how many I am going to buy. I am thinking 4, most people said they would order 3, but someone brought up a good point that you should have an extra one in the car. Just in case your outfit gets completely ruined during your clinical, you can go to the car and change.

I am SO excited and also curious if anyone from my interview group made it in as well! Let's keep up with each other through this process! I also started a thread for our Spring 2011 class if you want to check that out!

Hey Hopeful-

Hello again Romney, and hey Blueberry! Congrats again to you both for getting into the spring 2011 cohort!

I took the theology classes from June until the beginning of August. You will need two textbooks, one for each class. You need Called by the Gospel for Theology 202, and Called to Believe for Theology 101.

Eventually the professors will e-mail you on your Eagle e-mail account and let you know when they start posting stuff on Blackboard. You will do all of your schoolwork for these classes through Blackboard and Eagle e-mail. My professors didn't e-mail me until just a few days before the classes began. So as soon as you know your login info for Blackboard, just login in daily to check to see if any announcements or assignments have been posted. There is NO mandatory "in class session" - it's completely up to you when you check and work on your assignments (although there will of course be deadlines that you will need to follow).

*****Let me just add a little disclaimer that this is how the classes were for ME, so they might be a bit different for your cohort.

The theology classes required a lot of reading and writing, but they really weren't hard at all - especially with all of these crazy science and nursing classes that we're used to!

I start NEXT MONDAY!!!! I've been very very very excited and impatient up until this point and now I'm starting to feel a bit nervous. I'm still looking forward to NS of course, but I think it's only natural to kind of get that "Oh boy, what have I gotten myself into?" feeling right beforehand ;)

Wish me luck, ladies!!!

Thank you SO much for all your help Hopeful, I really appreciate it! I am so excited for you, I can't even imagine how nervous you probably are, although I am sure you will do great! Please keep us posted as to how everything going, I would love to hear all about it!

GOOD LUCK! :nurse:

YAY!!! I'm so excited to meet you tooo!! I have ordered my books online but have not received them yet. I only ordered the ones that said required. I still need to order the uniforms but will probably wait and order them after I complete all the paperwork that is required. I am so excited but super nervous. I will definately buy more than 2 uniforms but isn't clinicals only once a week? I guess we can always order more if we need to, but the car idea is excellent and I will make sure to have an extra pair in the car. I currently live in Los Angeles, so I am probably going to drive or move out. Also, I have not yet paid for tuition because I am thinking of applying to financial aid or some sort of loan. I need to contact the financial aid department....How can we exchange emails so that we can contact eachother during the waiting period and pre-req class? Are you going to order the stethoscope and uniforms now?
