Anyone Accepted into CCBC's Nursing Program???

First welcome and it will be a great journey. I've just completed my first semester of the Essex evening and weekend RN program. I absolutely love it. It's very challenging but you'll learn so much. I love the clinicals and actually working with the patients.

To answer some of your questions. The only classes they look at is English, Intro to Psych, human growth and development, sociology, a math and the science classes. I entered the program with an A in everything except English which I had a B. My math class was statistics. I also came in with a business bachelors. I had a 76 on my teas which was proficient. I used the teas study guide for that and did two practice exams on the ati website.

My advice to you is to try and get an A in everything. I know people who have gotten in with a 3.0 with a C in A&P I and and B in A&P II but it's very competitive. So of course the higher the GPA the better. And they especially look at the science classes. It also depends on which program you decide to do. The day program at Essex and Catonsville has more openings at about 60 people per class. The evening weekend program is about 40 students and the online is about 20. I would only recommend the LPN program as a last resort.

Lastly I would just say enjoy the ride. Your pre reqs will fly by and try and learn as much in A&P I and II because you'll use it a lot in nursing school.

Hands2help, Thank you for the advice about using ratemyprofessor.com. I have been using that since I first started college! LOL. So I am defiantly using that for my pre-reqs at CCBC too. Are you in a nursing program?

I don't know if they've changed things since I went (graduated May 2012), but we didn't have any choices at all about which classes we registered for or which professors we had. Each semester, there were specific classes and specific sections and everyone in your class registers for. You are in class with the same group of people for the entire program. I did the E/W program at Essex, so it might be different for days or on different campuses.

OMG- you are scaring me. I just started the program and so far I have found the instructors to be supportive and nurturing but very firm in their rules. One thing that bugs me is how they basically own us. They actually change class times. It is only the 3rd week and they have done it twice where we are required to come 30 minutes early. And they often let their lectures run 10 minutes past dismissal time. It is hard to manage when you have other obligations.

Also- we could not use rate my professor for nursing classes as they register you- you have no say in your schedule but they do try to get you set up to your preferences as far as lab sections, etc... They were able to give most people what they wanted as far as that goes. I did use ratemyprofessor heavily for prereqs and glad I did.

I am graduating in May with the online students, (I am in the paramedic to RN bridge) And you are absolutely correct in that they OWN u! Overall the program is OK. I am glad I had a strong medical background coming in however overall they don't care about you or what you have to do. They continuously would change class times or clinicals (often not finding out the the week of or week before). This posed a problem for my class as we all work full time still. With that said the course load is not bad. You can work full time and do school full time if you are motivated. My only advice is keep a calendar and that may be the only way to keep it all straight! I did have an exceptionally good experience with clinicals and our clinical instructors! To anyone doing online, be prepared to teach yourself, its almost all self taught with a seminar one night a week that primarily was a waste of time. Ive heard that the on ground program is really good and much better in terms of communication!

Medic turning rn Hi:) I just applied to essex evening/weekend program and am waiting on a decision. What did you get on your teas test? What was your gpa when you applied? My gpa is currently a 3.5 and I got 1 A and 3 B's in my science courses but Im worried about my teas score killing my chances to get into the program. I got a PROFICIENT but my scores really werent that great. Any info could be really helpful. thanks.

My GPA was a 3.2 and I did well on the teas test, don't remember the exact score now. However I was interviewed with the other paramedics. I would think you would have a great shot with it though!

The online program is tough. I agree that it's crazy with the constantly changing clinical schedule! The whole point of my going in the online program was to be able to work while going, but this program seemed worse than the face to face programs! At least their schedules are consistent. Many people dropped out due to the crazy schedule.
