This is the description of the externship Im interested in:
"Nurse Extern position available in the Emergency Department. Hours are flexible and based on departmental needs. Candidate must be an RN student currently enrolled in a nursing program and have completed at least 1 clinical rotation. Must successfully complete a basic skills test prior to interview. Direct patient care provider that requires phlebotomy, splint application, EKGs, and patient transport. Applicant is required to cross train in role of unit secretary and function as a unit secretary on a rotation basis."
What does the basic skills test entail?

Your best bet would probably be to call the hospital and ask about the test. I am starting a nurse extern position next week and there was not a skills test. They will just sort of precept us and check us off as we go along. However, before I got the externship position, I worked as a patient care tech at another hospital and I was required to take a written basic skills test which was very similar to the nurse aide state written exam.
So, you also might want to ask if it will be a written or practical test.
It probably will be over skills you've already learned thus far in nursing school.
Goodluck!
