Alternates???

Published

Hi everyone,

I posted on another thread that I was chosen as an alternate in the ADN program for fall, in a lottery. I was wondering if anyone else was chosen as an alternate for any programs, and what you think the chances are of getting in? Any suggestions/advice appreciated!!

What school did you get the letter from?

I was an alternate the semester that I started my program [ADN]. I was #92 and there were 80 seats. I got a phone call 3 days before the semester started to let me know I got in. Good luck~

The school I got accepted at accepts the top 40 out of about 250 applicants. I heard that they take at least 1 to two alternates each app period for one reason or another. Do you know where you are on the alternate list?

LMC is the school where I applied. I'm #17 on the alternates list...not good odds, I think :(. This was my third time applying. They give the TEAS test to all the people who were accepted into the program, and the first 20 alternates as well. Whoever doesn't reach the cut score (67 composite) will get dropped from the program. I'm trying to be positive, but I really doubt 17 people out of the 45 who were picked are going to decide to either go elsewhere, or fail the TEAS. What do you guys think??

Well I wouldn't say that it is impossible that you may be get in however at the schools that I have applied to, if you are on the alternate list and you do not get in for that semester you will be accepted for the following. There were 2 people that I know who got an alternate letter for last spring and they were 18 & 20 on the list. They did not get in for spring but they are starting in the fall.

I hope you do get in this semester! Good Luck.

I hope I get in too. I'm just not getting my hopes up. Unfortunately, the way the lottery is set up, there are no guarantees. Just because I was an alternate this year means nothing for next year...it's the same lottery, regardless. Which means, I could apply next year, for the fourth time, and not even get on the list at all. :(

As it is, I can't even apply next year. My anatomy expires this fall, the fall semester anatomy class is already full, and next year my micro and physio will expire (there is a recency requirement for the sciences at my school). So, this is it for me. If they don't get to #17, I pretty much have to figure out something else to do with my life. *sigh*

misStake,

I was afraid that would happen to me. My school had a 5 year science time limit up until next semester. When I checked the information for next semester it says they have done away with the time limit. I am guessing a lot of people were in your shoes and timing out on their sciences, and the school decided to do somthing about it.

If I were you I would call your schools nursing program, and let them know what is going on. If enough people call then maybe they will change it there also.
