I'm fresh out of high school (May 2009) and I obtained a job at my local hospital as a Nursing Assistant. I'm getting ready to start nursing school, but I wanted to know, if a course, that I was already taking, while I was still in high school, will apply to my job, after nursing school.
I'm taking a Medical Coding class, will this help me ANY, once I'm out of nursing school, and working as an RN?
Any advice is much appreciated!
Thanks,
Keith Cole

Perhaps with familiarity of medical terminology.

Like Reno1978 said, it may help with med. term. but you may not know what what certain terms mean and while you are coding they aren't going to give definitions and meanings. Good luck in the future!

It may help for medical terminology . Also would suggest you to visit skyscape website, they have some good nursing software which will help you.

At least you will understand the importance of being PRECISE when it comes to documentation. Failure for MD's to correctly specify a patient's condition can result in the facility losing thousands of dollars in reimbursement. There is a BIG difference between urinary foley catheter and heart cath and, believe it or not, I know someone who received the first and was billed for the later.
