I am a student nurse in my last term of the nursing program. I just started my practicum (on my second day) in the emergency department and am determined to educate myself better so that I will be more knowledgeable and prepared for this area of work.
1. Can anyone tell me of any good emergency nursing books or guides? I would prefer ones that have good explanations as to "why" interventions should be done the way that they are done.
2. If any experienced ER nurses have advice for me as I complete my hours in the emergency department, I would love to hear from you (articles/books to read, drugs to know, skills to practice). Any suggestions as to how I can work best with my preceptor or how I can make her job easier would be great. She is very kind to offer her time to precept me, but I think I slow her down sometimes and I'm sure it can be frustrating for her.

If you do a little searching in this forum, you'll find your answers - these are common questions here. Look for posts from new grads, they typically have the same questions as you do. Good luck and enjoy!
