Advice on Durham Tech ADN program

U.S.A. North Carolina

hello all!

this is my first post, so be gentle! :)

i am interested in changing careers from banking to nursing. this is a really big change, i know, but i have done a lot of soul-searching and i want to help people more than i can in the financial field. sooooooo... here i am!

i am currently attending durham tech just taking some pre-requisite courses so i can even put my name into the pool of applicants. i really want to try for the fall 2011 class, but i don't know if i can get everything done in time. i really want to get this done as soon as possible, as i am currently the breadwinner for the family and losing my salary for a few years is going to be really rough.

how many of you out there know about the waiting period for durham tech? once i complete all the steps, should i expect to get into the class, or is there a long wait list? also, is the program there worth it? do the hospitals and medical facilities in the triangle hire many graduates from durham tech?

thanks for all of your answers. i am excited to be on this path, but i am also very scared...

Hi amberleigh,

I know you posted a while ago but was wondering if you received a response to your questions. As you may know by now, the admissions application to Durham Tech changed to a competitive (points) process starting for the fall 2011 class.

What pre-reqs were you taking? Are you all done?

I know several nurses working in different hospitals in the area and all have told me good things about Durham Tech. You can also check out their pass rate for the NCLEX on the BON site.

I'm starting the ADN program in August and am very excited. Our orientation is in a few weeks and I already have my schedule. For now I plan on continuing to work PT with my current employer (if they allow it). I'm also changing careers and will be giving up a well-paid job to pursue this dream. At first, I expect to be making less than my current salary but hope to gain much more in return from this new career. In the long-term I think it will be a good career change and much more fulfilling.

Please let me know if you have any questions and I will try to answer. You can also PM me.

Are you currently in the Durham Tech ADN program. how is it? I'm still pre-nursing, I have to finish Patho and take my CNA courses. Just wanted to see what you think about the program.
