ADN programs in the Twin Cities?

Published

Hello everyone,

I'm a stay-at-home-mom with a BA in a non-medical field, and I'm hoping to pursue a degree in nurse midwifery. Right now I'm thinking the path that makes the most sense for me is to get an ADN, become an RN, then apply to bridge programs (ADN-MSN). In an ideal world, I'd try to get into the U's direct entry MSN, then DNP, or another ABSN program rather than ADN, but that seems financially prohibitive, and also difficult for me to dedicate that much full time on-campus time for school with kids at home.

I am having a hard time figuring out all the options at area community colleges, though. Has anyone gotten an ADN in or around the Cities, and would you be able to shed some light on which schools have nursing programs? I'm especially interested in doing some classes online or evenings/weekends, if possible. I'd also welcome input on whether my plan (ADN - bridge program to MSN) seems like the most sensible option for me.

Thanks so much! This forum is such a valuable resource as I'm trying to figure this all out.

From what I can tell, the main AS/ADN options that lead to an RN are: NHCC, Century, Inver Hills, Anoka Ramsey, MCTC, and Normandale. Did I miss any? Does anyone know which of these offer evening/weekend options? I saw MCTC does on their website; can anyone confirm NHCC also has an evening program? I saw people on this forum referring to it, but can't find information about it on their website.

Look into any MANE program schools for an ADN. Then Walden (Online) has a RN-BSN or a RN-MSN program that may be your quickest way of getting through to being a nurse midwife.

Most ADN programs are in class 4-5 days a week. After you get your RN/ADN then most colleges have online programs from there.

Online RN - BSN programs: Strayer, Walden, Bemidji State, St. Scholastica, St. Kates, Bethel, St. Cloud State, U of M, etc.

Online RN-MSN programs: Walden, Chamberlain, Winona State, etc.

Good luck.
