ADN to MSN

Published

Hey everyone I am still in my ADN program but halfway through and trying to plan out the rest of my education. Just had a question if anyone knows. What is the timetable for an rn (ADN) to msn? I know that the website says four years which seems like a lot so I am wondering how fast it can be done.

Thanks

I have seen programs for an ADN for MSN with a time table of 2 to 3 years fulltime. Four years seems like a long time unless it was partime. Also I guess it would depend on how much of the universities general education requirements you already have - an ADN curriculum does not typically satisfy all the requirements. Additionally most MSN programs require at least 1 year of experience working as a nurse prior to application. Lastly you will most likely have to submit competitive GRE test scores - so you'll need to complete those prerequisite course prior to sitting for this test. Hope that helps.

I have a previous bachelors degree in a non related field so I have most of the pre-reqs completed. I was asking specifically about western governors. YOu have seen people complete the msn at western governors in 2-3 years?

You don't need a GRE or 1 year of experience or any of that for a WGU MSN. The program is all-new, however, so it's hard to tell how long it will take someone that's motivated. The old MSN could be done in 6 months, but the new one I guestimate will take two to three terms from a BSN- 1-1.5 years. Probably three to four terms for an ADN to MSN. No one has finished the 'new' program yet, so we can't be sure. :) I finished my BSN there in about three months, and could have done the old MSN in another 6, but it's all new now.

Sorry OP - I am a mobile user and don't always see the category designations when I click current topics or search topics. I thought you were asking about ADN-MSN programs in general not specifically WGU. I have no knowledge of that college - sorry about that! I was interested in your post as I was recently looking up ADN-MSN programs myself :)

@featherzRN that makes I had heard about the new program. Makes sense that no one really knows how long it will take but thanks for the estimate.

FeatherzRN can you tell me what order you took you classes and/or any recommendations you have for the order you would recommend taking them?
