Admission--what is your plan?

I am facilitating an improvement around how we admit patients. We will not be going with "admitting nurses" and will be continuing to have the same nurses admit patients that will be caring for them. However, we are considering how we can do things differently in terms of pairing people for an admission to ensure everything gets done for the patient and gets done more quickly to free the nurse up for his/her other duties.

I was wondering your model for admitting a patient in your hospital. Does the nurse caring for the patient do it alone? Does this usually lead to many interruptions and things getting omitted from the assessment, etc? Is there a way you WISH your hospital would look at admissions?

I am trying to get input from outside our organization before I begin working with this new group.

I appreciate any input you can give.
