adjunct vs. full time?

Is teaching adjunct similar to working per-diem, as far as the $$$ (higher rate, no benefits, etc)? If so, does it make more sense to work this way, if you don't need the benefits. Also, I imagine that most cannot afford to live on an educators salary as comfortably as a hospital rn's salary. And to keep up with the real world, work per-diem in the hospital? Just trying to get an idea of what most people do (when they're not teaching).

Most ADN and BSN programs have adjunct positions. Especially at the BSN level, the pay can be quite good, because these positions are in demand. These positions vary greatly from institution to institution as does the pay. The savvy adjunct instructor will often negotiate for the highest salary dollar possible with the institution. ;) As the critical demand for nurse educators increases, the salaries for adjuncts will definitely increase.
